SBI donates ambulance under Corporate Social Responsibility

CHUMUKEDIMA: State Bank of India, the country’s largest bank, today donated an ambulance to People in Need Foundation, Dimapur (PINF). Dr. Ashwani Kumar, Governor, Nagaland, formally handed over the keys to Joe Ngamkhuchung, Chairman, PINF, in a function held at Police House, Chumukedima.

The ambulance has been donated to enable PINF to provide better medical and relief services to the needy people of the villages surrounding Dimapur, and to render various humanitarian services like taking the sick and ailing poor patients of remote areas to hospitals.

PINF Chairman, Ngamkhuchung, in a brief speech highlighted his association with HIV/AIDS. Giving a brief on the history of PINF, he informed that the foundation essentially started as organization working for HIV/AIDS, and “expanded to the differently- abled persons.” Ngamkhuchung thanked SBI for donating the ambulance and stated that the ambulance “would add quality to our service.”

The Governor, in his speech, appreciated the noble and dedicated service rendered by PINF and also lauded SBI Officials for donating the ambulance as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility. The Governor further urged SBI to continue to contribute for humanitarian works adding, “The more you give the more you get”. 

Stressing on the word ‘donation’ Dr Kumar cited an example from our state saying, “The best buildings in Nagaland are of the churches and they are built from public donations.” The Governor, highlighting the Buddhist concept of giving – called ‘dhan’ – stated that it was the noblest of concepts where one gives unconditionally and receives unconditionally without any attachments.

Earlier, Binod Kumar Srivastava, Assistant General Manager, delivered the welcome address and A K Choudhury, Dy. General Manager, gave a short address. David Kire, Chief Manager, delivered the vote of thanks.

Meanwhile, a programme for handing over of bank draft (Amounting Rs. 7,81,234/-) for the cost of an Ambulance (Chevrolet Tavera) by State Bank of India Mokokchung Bazar Branch to Impur Christian Hospital (ICH) was held at Regional Business Office Mokokchung on March 5.

Asst. Gen. Manager (AGM) SBI Regional Business Office, Mokokchung, Sharma Khount, in his short speech mentioned that the donation of the Ambulance is undertaken as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). He maintained that SBI which is one of the oldest Banking institutions in India is working for the welfare and betterment of the people and the society throughout the world and under CSR, SBI is carrying out donation works such as providing water filter and Fans to educational institutions, equipments & TV sets to hospital, plantation of trees etc. The AGM also said that since Impur Christian Hospital was started for a noble cause, the purpose of donating the ambulance was to help the poor people in rural areas.

Executive Secretary Ao Baptist Church Council (ABAM) Mar Atsongchanger also mentioned his appreciation towards SBI for the generosity and mentioned that the service of the ambulance would benefit not only the Aos but people of the neighboring tribes as well.
