State Bank of India (SBI) opened its newest branch office at Naga United Village on March 15 with Chief General Manager (CGM), North East circle, Vincent MD gracing the occasion as the special guest along with Surabhi Bhattacharyya, DGM (B&O), Jorhat Module.
This will be the 5th branch under Chümoukedima district with over 75 other branches located across Nagaland. The new outlet will be referred to as the SBI Naga United Branch.
The CGM in his address to the gathering stated that SBI has consistently been opening new branches across the NE region with four branches already set up in the last 30 days. “This will be the 814th branch in the region,” he reported. In Nagaland, the CGM highlighted that 60% of banking activities is constituted by SBI, be it commercial, personal consumption, government schemes etc. Due to which it has the maximum number of bank branches as well.
Although 97% of all transactions are processed through non-face to face channels, he said the need was to set up physical offices to get a clearer picture of its registered customers. “Only if we feel the pulse of the people, we will be able to deliver what the people want,” the CGM viewed.

At present the bank has about 22,500 branches all over India, apart from a huge number of ATMs, customer support points, etc. “All put together, SBI has more than 5 lakh customer touch points to serve customers in a better way,” he said. For which he added, “This branch will bring progress and development to this area and act as a catalyst to push economic activities.”
Kevethito Rose, EAC of Chümoukedima meanwhile called upon the people of the area to lend their support to the bank and make the best use of the facilities provided. “It has been the long felt desire of this village to open up an SBI branch, as it is one of the fastest growing villages in Nagaland,” he noted.
Business establishments are flourishing, infrastructure is improving both in the private and public sector therefore, Rose encouraged the people to get themselves registered with the bank.

At the same time, he reminded the banking officials of the need to conduct financial literacy camps to ensure villagers know of the facilities available within their respective banks.
Chairman of Naga United Village Council, Reyopoyi Nyekha noted that this branch will not just be for the village but also for the neighboring villages as well. He appealed to the churches, educational establishments, offices, business establishments and villagers to avail the facilities provided in the new branch.
The Naga United Branch will be staffed by Branch Manager, Tumchobemo Humtsoe and Rohit Kumar, Junior Associate along with a number of other staffs.
