The SBI, to help farmers, has also signed an MoU with Komul Co-Operative Society wherein the bank will finance farmers/suppliers from 26 villages adopted by the SBI, said N G Thony Pao, Deputy Manager, SBI Bazar Branch. The farmers/suppliers in turn will supply their produce to Komul Co-operative Society who in turn will repay the loan availed from the bank, said Pao. The State Bank of India implementing government-sponsored schemes granted the Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) loan to 77 beneficiaries from 26 villages in its circle in the year 2005-06 said Thony Pao. To meet credit requirements of farmers, the bank has also financed 400 farmers under the Kisan Credit Card and has also financed 9 SHGs directly during the year 2005-06.

Looking at the inefficient banking services provided by banking institutions in the state, N G Thony Pao pointed out that the increasing number of customers and busy schedules has led to inefficiency of banking services. While informing that the SBI will be installing three more Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) one each at SBI Bazar Branch, Rangapahar Branch and Railway Station in Dimapur he said, “The installation of the ATM counters will solve the problem of rush and busy schedule to some extent.” The ATM at Bazar Branch is expected to be installed within the next 10-15 days. At present there are only three ATMs in the state with one in Dimapur and two  in Kohima.

To improve and accelerate the speed of banking transactions, Core-Banking Services was introduced in the north east in collaboration with the BSNL. Core-Banking Service is one of the most flexible banking solutions said Pao. “A customer having account in both core banking and ATM can draw cash anywhere and at any time” said Pao. With the improved service, the service charge of Core Banking below Rs. 20,000 is also free. In Nagaland, Core Banking services are available at SBI Bazar Branch and Evening Branch in Dimapur and SBI Lerie Branch and Bazar Branch in Kohima.
