Zunheboto, October 1 (MExN): Senior Citizen Association Zunheboto district unit (SCAZDU) in collaboration with Social Welfare Department and Legal Services Authority celebrated International day of Older Persons under the theme ‘Resilience of older persons in a changing world’ at VDB hall on October 1.
K Tokugha Sukhalu, IAS (Rtd), Advisor for Food and civil supplies and LMCP graced the programme as special guest, stated a press release received here.
In his address, Advisor Sukhalu called upon all to reflect on the challenges and issues the senior citizens face and to be more conscious of their needs, strive to create an environment of respect, understanding and care, to create more inclusive and equitable society for the seniors, and to make sure the seniors can live with dignity and live lives of joy and fulfillment.
‘International Day of Older Persons is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the importance of older people in society and to raise awareness about the challenges they may face in terms of access to healthcare, social security and other services,’ he stated.
The day also highlights the need for policies and legislation that protects the rights of older persons and ensure their well-being, he added.
Sukhalu also said, “In the past our forefathers have donated large area of land to make out district a developed one but this days developmental process are hampered or becoming impossible because of lack of land.” On this issue, he requested the seniors “to educate one another and donate or give land whenever required by the government for development purpose.”
EAC Hq. Moplin in his speech thanked the seniors of Zunheboto for building the district and making it possible for them come and run the administration with peace and with ease. He requested the seniors to always support the administration as they have always been doing as they need their wisdom and support all the time. Easter H Yeptho, Retainer Lawyer Zunheboto spoke about the various rights and facilities of older person.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by Er Yekuto Zhimomi, GS, SCAZDU, invocation by Rev Henito Kiba, Chaplain SCAZDU, welcome address by Er Ghokishe Zhimomi, President SCAZDU, keynote address by Y Tauhong Ngonyen, DWO Zunheboto. Sumi folk song was presented by Yetozhe Zhimomi and group and special song by Hope Messengers. Rev Honito Chophi, Pastor UBC Satakha prayed for the older persons, Akuto Chishi, Advisor SCAZDU delivered vote of thanks and Ghunato Assumi, Associate Pastor General said the benediction.
