Tuensang, February 19 (MExN): The Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) today gave a “final call” to Nagaland Chief Secretary and Chief Minister to fulfill their assurance and release the Post Matric Scholarship for 2016-17 in full to all the student beneficiaries immediately.
A press release from ENCSU president, M Longre Chang and general secretary, Wangnei C Jessuhu reminded that the government had assured to release full amount of the scholarship before Christmas 2017.
Urging the present government to speak the truth regarding the issue to the students in Nagaland, ENCSU maintained that thousands of students are facing trouble because of the non-release of the scholarship.
In an apparent show of frustration, the students’ union told the Chief Minister and his Government not to campaign for election saying “…it is shameful to stand before the students for election campaign when the Government is not providing positive impact for their own students.”
The State Chief Minister and Chief Secretary, it asserted, “should not sleep while their own children/students are thirsty for their own due share of scholarship.”
Meanwhile, the ENCSU questioned why the State government could not come up with clear report of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in public domains when the report has already been submitted to the state Chief Secretary. “How could Nagas in general trust the government if there is no proof of SIT report which was set up by the State Government,” it wondered.
Further, ENCSU demanded that the issue of scholarship fund misuse should “not reach to the new government and it is the matter among the current government.” Therefore, it asked the incumbent government to solve the issue before the schedule of State general election.
On the other hand, the students’ body directed the Department of Higher Education and the state Home Commissioner to publish in the print media the specific reason for not receiving the fourth installment of the scholarship yet from the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
It also asked the Higher Education department why it still could not notify the student beneficiaries who are yet to receive even the first installment of the scholarship.
“The ENCSU will not compromise until and unless the students get their full scholarship,” it asserted.
