School based awareness prog for adolescent girls held

Kohima, July 27 (MExN): As part of Kohima District Convergence Action Plan for IEC and Advocacy Campaign under the National Nutrition Mission, a school based awareness programme for adolescent girls was organised at Government Middle School, New Minister Hill Kohima on July 25.
James Ezung, CDPO Kohima (T) in a press release stated that Dr. Toboli Chishi, Medical Officer, UPHC, Kohima highlighted that adolescence is transition period where a lot of changes occur and there is a need to give proper importance to adolescent health along with good nutrition intake. She stressed on the deficiency and problems caused by low nutrition intake and advised the teenagers to inculcate good health and nutrition habits which will contribute to their future well-being. She also made aware the importance of menstruation and proper hygiene practices.
James Ezung, CDPO Kohima (T) speaking on the topic ‘challenges and issues as an adolescent’ shared on the various challenges such as physical, social, intellectual, moral and mental health. He said that although different phases of life comes with their own problems and challenges, adolescent phase is considered as the most important, interesting as well as turbulent phase because it is this phase of life which determines and shapes one’s future.
“This is the age when teenage tries to explore to find oneself and this self discovery is essential for the development of a good self image and identity,” therefore, he advised that “teenagers must stay focussed and have positive attitude as they try to experiment in the course of their self discovery by avoiding the dangers and risk behaviour of the teen age and find ways to enjoy the time as teenagers without endangering one’s life and that of others.” He spoke on various social issues and legal rights, right age of marriage and various services available for adolescent girls.
The programme was chaired along with concluding remarks by Imkongzenla DPO (ICDS) Kohima.
