The Nagaland Vigilance Commission, which is handling the case of ‘bogus appointment’ of teachers in the state’s School Education department, has taken the director of the department Nipusilie Angami into a 72-hour remand. Sources revealed that the School Education director was produced before the Additional District and Sessions Judge of Kohima and was given over  to a 72-hour remand for thorough interrogation related to bogus appointment of teachers.  Earlier, the Minister for School Education and SCERT, Nyeiwang Konyak, had  pointed out that the department faced a serious shortfall of almost Rs. 28 crore in meeting salaries during 2008-2009 due to a  large number of unaccounted appointees in the department. He also revealed that there was an addition of more than 2, 000 employees on the payroll of the department from March 31, 2007 till March 31, 2008. The Vigilance Commission alongside investigations into appointment of teachers, is also conducting physical verification of teachers and staffers of the department.
