School includes vocational course in curriculum

Dr Kire launches vocational training initiatives under skill development in CornerStone Hr Sec School

Dimapur, June 26 (MExN): CornerStone Higher Secondary School (CHSS) today launched vocational trainings under skill development initiative for higher secondary students at its school premises, Duncan Basti, Dimapur. Experienced resource persons will be training the students on computer accountancy and tally, hospitality assistant, soft skills for baseline staff in service sector, mass communication, spoken English and communication skills, and computer basics. 

Dr. Nicky Kire, Parliamentary Secretary of land revenue, justice and law, labour and employment formally launched the training. Complimenting the school on the launch of vocational training, Dr. Kire stressed on the importance of skill development, and technical expertise for the students. He termed the introduction of vocational training to the curriculum as “a broad vision” and the right way to start with students. He also advised the school to introduce the initiative to students of 9th and 10th grade. He expressed hope that other schools will follow suit so that Naga children may improve upon themselves and make a difference to society. 

Dr. Sashimeren Aier, Chairman, Cornerstone Society stated that with the launch of vocational trainings, another wing is being added to the institute. He expressed hope that the training will prove to be beneficial to the students. “Today is a great day, a milestone in achievements of the school.” Referring to a news report that 47% graduates are unemployed in any job, he stated, “Our school is sincerely trying to make an effort to avoid similar situations for our students.” Also, when students leave this school they will have additional training besides their educational qualification. 

Vandanshan Lotha Additional Director, Employment and Craftmen Training Government of Nagaland, and Er.S.Temsulong, Joint Director Industries and Commerce also exhorted the gathering. Sentisangla, Principal Cornerstone Higher Secondary School chaired the programme and Yaya, Coordinator, Vocational Trainings, Cornerstone Society delivered the vote of thanks.
