
Kohima, June 16 (MExN): The eligible schools in Nagaland have been asked to apply for establishment of Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL).
To foster creativity and scientific temper in students, NITI Aayog has proposed to establish 500 Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATL) in schools under Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) during 2016-17.
A press release from Additional Director (HoD) of Department of Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe informed that a onetime grant-in-aid of Rs. 10 lakhs will be provided for establishing Atal Tinkering laboratories (ATL) in schools (grades VI-XII) across India. An amount of Rs. 10 lakh will also be provided for each lab over a period of 5 years for operational expenses.
Under this programme, young children will get a chance to work with tools and equipments to understand what, how and why aspects of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math), according to the release. Schools having classes from VI — XII under Government, local bodies, private trusts/society are eligible to apply for Atal Tinkering Laboratories, Guidelines and submission of applications online may be accessed from www.niti.gov.inicontent/atal-tinkering-laboratories.
The last date for submission of application online has been extended up to July17, 2016. The Principals/Headmasters of all eligible schools in Nagaland have been requested to visit the website and apply.
The release added that NITI Aayog is willing to consider relaxation of a minimum space for the ATL from 1500 to 1000 sq ft and also enrolment up to 250 students.
