Schools in Kohima observe Mathematics Day

Kohima, March 18 (MExN): National Mathematics day was organized today at Little Flower Higher Secondary school in the school auditorium. 

Keynote speaker Dr Nesatalu Hiese, scientist ‘D’ NASTEC, Govt of Nagaland shared a brief history of NMD. She said the main objective is to inspire students and researchers, to explore and create awareness about the relevance of mathematics, mentioned a press release from the organizers. 

The theme reflects the essence of mathematics to embrace mathematics not just a subject but a way how NASTEC and DOST are doing so much to create a sense of interest in math and science with incentives.

Guest speaker Dr Aronthung S Odyuo, Asst. Professor (mathematics), Kohima Science College, Jotsoma pointed out that mathematics help us to think critically with the questions of ‘why’, ‘which’ and this in turn leads to innovation. The students participated in math- related quiz competition and model-display contest. 

Quiz competition was bagged by Little Flower Hr Sec School and Mezhür Hr Sec school as the runners up.

The Model- display contest which required students to create innovative models using mathematical concepts was bagged by Minister’s Hill Baptist Hr. Sec school and Dainty Buds as the runners up. 

Teisovi Gerard Meyase, Asst Professor and Controller of Examinations, Kohima Science College judged the Model display contest.

The event was organized and supported by NASTEC, Department of Science and Technology and was hosted by Little Flower Higher Secondary School Kohima.  

During the programme, 14 schools namely Little Flower HSS, Azedon school, Chandmari School, Corragio School, Charity School, Holy Family HSS, Dainty Buds, Mezhür HSS, Minister’s Hill Baptist HSS, St Mary Cathedral HSS, The Vineyard school, Model HSS, Razhükhrie Govt HSS and Christ King HSS actively participated in the event.
