Dimapur, March 26 (MExN): Several schools across the state have kicked off their annual sports meet. The annual sports and games of the agape school started today with the school administrator declaring the event sports open. Addressing the students the administrator said, games and sports are essential not only in the life of students but for every individual and added that fitness reflects a healthy society. (Morung Photo)[/caption] Maintaining that taking part in games and sports saves from sickness the administrator said, “if you take active part in sports you will save yourself from many lifestyle sickness like diabetics, pressure and sugar.” He asked the students to take active part in sports not only to win but also for the benefit of healthy living. The administrator also asked the students to take part in sports in the true sporting spirit so that the true value of sports and games is learned. Sharing on the significance of groups, the administrator also said, “as you have divided yourself in four groups naming after birds, you all should be a good indicator of healthy society as birds are the indicator of healthy environment.” [caption id="attachment_349126" align="alignnone" width="700"]
Students who participated in the Assisi HSS Evening Section annual sports on March 27.[/caption] Students presented a shuffle dance and also each group captain shared on the meaning of each group. The groups were divided after the name of four birds, the Hornbill, the Tragopan, the Kingfisher and the Amur Falcon. The Assisi Higher Secondary School Evening Section also began celebrated its annual sports meet today. The opening ceremony was graced by Rev. Sr. Susheela Sequiera the Superior General of Ursuline Franciscan Congregation as chief guest and Rev. Sr. Lily Pinto the Councillor General and Rev. Sr. Mary C.J the Provincial Superior as guests of honour. The chief guest in her address encouraged the students to take up sports as a means of cultivating values and building up the bond of unity. She added that students should grab every opportunity provided by the school to excel in their life. She encouraged the school management with the person of Rev. Sr. Benishathe, Head Mistress and the staff for their tireless efforts in molding and shaping students to cope up in life. There were variety programmes like drill display, choreography, action song etc. The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by school pupil leader, Mohid Raj Giri. In Phesama as well, the annual sports and games meet of St Paul School, Phesama kicked off with a colourful inaugural ceremony, with Vikho-o Youshü, speaker of Nagaland legislative Assembly as the chief guest. He gave away the colours, inspected the houses and received salute from the marching contingents of the school. In his address he asked the students to develop moral values and stressed on the importance of character formation. He has praised the students for their disciplined performance. The two days events will have track events and games. The school alumni are lending their hand in smooth conduct of the event. The programme began with the invocation by Rev. Fr. Boniface D Souza SJ. The principal of the school welcomed everyone and felicitated the speaker. The opening programme also had display of aerobics with eye captivating movements. The little children also danced to the rhythmic music. The programme was witnessed by the village leaders and the parents. The school leader, Keleze Chuse thanked everyone.
