
Kiphire, August 13 (MExN): Asula Yingpthonglaru of El-Beth School, Kiphire was declared winner of the Kiphire district Science Seminar organized by the Department of Education today at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s office here. The theme of the seminar was ‘Pulses for sustainable food security: Prospect and challenges’.
Lankonsen Tsanglao, SDO (C) Kiphire, who was the chief guest, said the contribution of the young minds of the society is very much needed in every aspect of today’s growth and advised the students to get oneself prepared to stand strong even if there is any shortage of food due to natural calamities.
Highlighting the need of more production of pulses, the SDO (C) stated the presentations made in the seminar should not end with the seminar, but one should try to take along the lessons learned so that agriculture can be improved in the district.
The SDO (C) also observed that many families and parents are sending their children to schools and colleges by cultivating pulses as they fetch high price. He further noted that in Kiphire with suitable climatic condition, pulses is an alternative crop and since it has been cultivated since time immemorial there is a cultural connection as well.
He also advised the students to be different and take life very seriously as there is stiff competition everywhere.
Deenabandh Panda, DEO Kiphire while giving an opening remark stressed on the importance of science and also disclosed the first two winners who will be representing the district in the state level.
Stressing on the importance of pulses, he said, with climate change and population growth, pulses is an important food crop which not only helps in soil water conservation but also helps in soil nutrition.
The first and second runners up of the seminar were Litsazi from Agape School and Kaiho of Sararmati School respectively.
Altogether, 16 students from different schools took part in the competition.
