SCMI Nagaland hosts regional program on equity and development challenges

Dimapur, November 17 (MExN): The Students Christian Movement of India (SCMI), Nagaland, successfully organized a two-day regional program under the theme "Equity in Focus: Overcoming Development Challenges in Nagaland" at the Youth Oasis Centre, Eralibill, on November 13-14. The event brought together speakers, youth leaders, and students to explore innovative, equity-centered solutions to the region’s development challenges.

In the opening address, Manshen K, Honorary Senior Friend and treasurer of SCMI Nagaland, distinguished equity from equality, emphasizing the need for tailored approaches that address diverse needs. Highlighting the education sector, he advocated for balancing quality with access and discussed the Frontier Nagaland Territory movement, aiming to rectify historical disparities in Eastern Nagaland.

Dr. Rilipong Thonger, Legal Advisor of the United Sangtam Students’ Conference, focused on youth empowerment, urging participants to develop critical thinking, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Complementing this, Adekhing I. Sangtam, Vice President of the United Sangtam Students’ Conference, emphasized capacity building and sustainable growth, advocating for tailored training programs and mentorship to foster individual and community resilience.

Zaito Ayemi, a well-known entrepreneur, encouraged economic diversification through sustainable agriculture, tourism, and small-scale industries. He underscored the potential of Nagaland’s natural and cultural assets to drive local economic growth and create sustainable livelihoods.

In a presentation, Dr. Aniruddha Babar, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Tetso College, addressed governance reforms, constitutional mandates, and decentralized development planning. Using the proposed Frontier Nagaland Territory as a case study, Dr. Babar called for legislative, executive, and financial autonomy to empower local communities and drive culturally relevant, effective development strategies.
