
Kohima | November 17 : With the detection of Scrub Typhus from different pockets of the state and with a total tally of 113 cases and 8 deaths from September 2011 till November 15, the directorate of health and family welfare Kohima in its quarterly district review meeting of chief medical officers and medical superintendents on November 15 deliberated and focused on Scrub Typhus management, diagnosis and preventive measures.
Dr. Tunyi Sao highlighted on the scenario of Scrub Typhus in the state.
Dr. Sentimeren, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima gave a briefing on the clinical features and treatment on Scrub Typhus stating that with 100% mortality rate if the diseases is not diagnosed and treated early, Scrub Typhus stands as one of the deadliest among all Vector Borne Disease. He emphasized on taking serious action against this outbreak by the concerned department at the earliest.
Dr. John Kemp, IDSP highlighted on laboratory diagnosis of Scrub Typhus where he stated that prevention being the best cure always, education and awareness to the people should be emphasized through IEC intervention. This was followed by distribution of IEC materials handouts, flex charts and rapid test kit for Scrub Typhus.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Neiphi Kire, Additional Director, Directorate of Health & Family Welfare and from seven districts CMO’s and MS’s along with senior officers and programme officers in the directorate attended the meeting.
