The Shree Digamber Jain Charitable Clinic, under the aegis of the Shree Digamber Jain Samaj Dimapur (SDJSD), organized a free check-up cum distribution of hearing aids camp on September 27-28.
“We have been conducting such free check-ups and distribution of aids over the years with the help of donations from the community” Narendra Jain, the Secretary of the clinic told The Morung Express during an interaction at the sideline of initiative on Friday.
Apart from such camps, the clinic also offers treatment locals at a minimal consultation charge of Rs 50 per head, he added.
The Secretary also informed that the clinic had conducted a similar medical camp last year where prosthetic legs were distributed.
Next year, he further said, the clinic is planning to give prosthetic hands to the poor who cannot afford such medical aids on their own.
When asked if they have a specific plan of action, the Secretary informed that the SDJSD committee decides “what issue to take up based on the need of the place.”
On September 28, when The Morung Express visited the clinic, an elderly patient availing the facilities said he learned about the free medical camp from the newspaper and came along with his friend who also has a hearing difficulty. He lauded the initiative as noble cause.
Another young man who came accompanied by his mother for check-up also expressed happiness for the free consultation and aid rendered to the less privileged community.
It may be mentioned here that the Jain Samaj Dimapur also runs the SD Jain Higher Secondary School and the Samaj had acquired a new plot in Supply Colony which, it was informed, would be used to for further expansion of the school.
