Longleng/Kohima, December 8 (DIPR): Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, YM Yollow inaugurated Sub-Divisional Agriculture Officer’s offices in Tamlu (Longleng district) and Chiephobozou (Kohima district) on December 7 and 8 respectively.
Addressing the gathering in Tamlu, Yollow called upon the public to pursue agriculture with dedication by availing high yielding and quality seedling and other facilities provided by the government. He also urged the community to pursue the clean election campaign. Yollow termed it unfortunate that democracy is being stifled with village councils’ diktats of restricting individuals’ rights to freedom of choices. In this, he called for creating environment conducive for free and fair elections in the state to remove corruption.
BS Nganlang Phom, Parliamentary Secretary for Land Resources, who was present at the programme, sought partnership and cooperation of the people in the developmental plans of the government and for effective execution of government schemes and projects. Stressing on the potential of the area to develop into agriculture belt, he asked the department to promote crops based on agro-climatic suitability and profitability. On the same note, he encouraged the stakeholders to avail the services of the department and to promote cash crops.
Meanwhile, Director for Agriculture Helie Rupreo congratulated the Phom people, officers and staffs of DAO Longleng on the inclusion of SDAO office, Tamlu as one of the seven new SDAO offices in the State. He highlighted that the Agriculture department has a total of 1981 employees inclusive of ATMA and KVK in the State.
The Tamlu Village Council Chairman conveyed gratitude to the government and expressed hope that the inauguration of the new SDAO office in Tamlu will bring further development to the locality. Administrative officers, government officers and civil societies of the district were also present at the inauguration programme.
In Chiephobozou, Parliamentary Secretary Yollow informed that there are 26 SDAO offices across the State which play important role in agriculture sector. Stating that the 7686 farmers from the 28 villages under Chiephobozou are the department’s personnel, he called upon all concerned individuals to work whole heartedly in the agri sector. He also pointed out that work culture generated from the villages should be preserved for future generation. Seedlings, he assured, will be distributed in time from the SDAO’s office. He also urged all the farmers to join hands with the department and avail the opportunities for the livelihood of “our” generation and bring changes in Naga society.
Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu speaking as the guest of honour thanked Yollow and Agriculture Director Helie Rupreo for fulfilling the long awaited desires of Chiephobozou people and wished that their visions for the uplift of the area people will continue under their leadership. Pointing out that “our” products are organic and healthy, he appealed to all the village leaders, GBs and concerned individuals to extend full cooperation to the department in implementing the programmes in order to uplift the people in agriculture sector. He hoped that with the inauguration of the office, more opportunities for livelihood, job and economy will be increased for the people of the area.
Director for Agriculture, Helie Rupreo while giving a brief report of the department congratulated the District Agricultural Officer (DAO) and his staff and people of Chiephobozou for the achievement. He stated that Kohima district will now have three Agriculture Divisions with this inauguration – District Agriculture Office in Kohima Sadar, Tseminyu and Chiephobozou. It was further informed that the department has eleven DAOs, 26 SDAOs, State Agriculture Research Centre in Mokokchung, Principal ITC at Medziphema, State Seed Farm at Merapani, Central Store at Dimapur, Agri Expo in Dimapur, seven farms, and two Sub-Research Stations.
