
DIMAPUR, MAY 31 (MExN): The Sumi Discussion Forum (SDF) expressed deep sorrow over the sudden demise of its esteemed member, Khetoho (Toto) Nurumi, who passed away on May 30, 2025, at Olive Hospital, Dimapur.
In a condolence message the SDF stated that Nurumi, known for his humility, courage, and dedication, was a prominent freelance journalist, community leader, and mentor who worked tirelessly for the welfare of the Sumi community and Nagas at large.
He was the recipient of the Baba Saheb Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar Award in 2002 and had completed a Post-Graduation Diploma in Communication, Radio and TV Journalism from Delhi in 2001-2002. Nurumi served as Senior News Editor at All India Radio (AIR) from 2005 to 2008, News Anchor at Doordarshan TV Nagaland in 2010, President of Kohima Press Club between 2010 and 2012, and Secretary of Kohima Sumi Hoho from 2016 to 2019. He was also a founding member of the local newspaper Sumi Kiyephi in 2004.
A prolific contributor to print and electronic media, Nurumi regularly wrote for the Nagaland Post and other local dailies, championing social transformation and the welfare of the Sumi community. He authored the book “Operation Flush Out Mission” published by Sumi Hoho.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Nurumi voluntarily provided authentic news and updates via his YouTube channel “News and Trends From Nagaland,” helping inform and support the state through the crisis.
The SDF said the Sumi community has lost a stalwart whose legacy will continue to inspire future generations. It extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for his soul to rest in eternal peace.
