SE Director says he led clean-drive

‘Hundreds of fakes in SE detected’

Dimapur, July 29 (MExN): The director of School Education today disclosed that more than 600 “bogus appointees” were found in year 2007-2008, in the School Education department and their salaries were withheld. Similarly, out of the total 1286 appointees under Longleng DIS, only 792 were found to be genuine while the rest  were found to be ‘bogus.’

Director of School Education Nipusilie Angami today issued a statement reiterating his position in the backdrop of the “imbroglio” in the department.  “In the incumbency list for 2007-08, salaries for 1, 430 employees were found to have been drawn. It was through my initiative that these excesses were found and more than 600 ‘bogus appointees’ were detected and their salaries were withheld,” Angami stated.

These appointments were made backdoor, the education official explained. “The aforementioned ‘bogus appointments’ were never routed through files or proper government approval but rather, were fabricated from other sources.

I believe that appointments made through files should not exceed the sanctioned posts of the department,” Angami said in the statement which he said to have issued to clear aspersions cast on his credibility. Angami also disclosed that prior to his assuming capacity as the head of the department he had encouraged his predecessor to ‘check bogus appointments’ in the directorate. Consequently, he said 263 cases of ‘bogus appointments’ were detected, their orders cancelled and were terminated from service with the government’s approval.

“Subsequently, I took over as HoD on May 16, 2005 and during this period, I kept sending wireless text messages and regular press releases to all the DDOs reminding them to verify the doubtful appointments before disbursing salaries,” Angami said.

Further, Angami said the most challenging of times was when the “CMO” entrusted him to take up the task of verifying “intricate appointments” under Longleng’s DIS. “To this I gave my very best  and work strenuously with my staff to the fullest of our ability and finally was able to distinctively identify ‘bogus appointees’,” he said. Out of the total 1286 appointees, only 792 were found to be genuine while the remaining 494 were found to be bogus. Consequently, he said, their salaries were withheld.

“From the day I took over as HoD of the department till date, I have been working incessantly for the revivification of the department and has left no stone unturned to unearth and detect any anomalies in the department including the issue of ‘bogus appointments’,” Angami said.

“Accordingly, I shall continue to exercise my duty as a responsible citizen and a sincere government servant with utmost endurance in the days to come,” the education official assured.
