Second International Yoga Day in Nagaland

Dimapur, June 21 (MExN): The second International Yoga Day was commemorated across Nagaland on June 21.  

BJP: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commemorated the day at Brahma Kumaris Center, PWD junction in Kohima. Led by Sister Rupa, who is running a yoga center in Kohima, the event was attended by Visasolie Lhoungu, President, BJP Nagaland and other party officials. Visasolie exhorted the people to adopt yoga as a way of life for healthy living. The other attendees included Eduzu, General Secretary, BJP Nagaland; Vizopal Chaya, DAC Convenor; Veneizo Tsürho, ST Morcha President; Thomas Magh, President Minority Morcha.  

BJYM: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Nagaland State unit organized the International Yoya Day celebration at its head office in Dimapur. A press release issued by Convenor, Media Cell, BJYM Nagaland stated that the president of BJYM Nagaland, Vikuho Dominic stressed on the importance of yoga during the programme. Yoga, he asserted, balances body and soul, and enhances physical and mental well being. Vikuho further pointed out that yoga is a tool for transformation; it allows people of all age groups, religions, nationalities and social background to experience meditation and expand their perception of life from individuality to universality. The president further highlighted some of the benefits of yoga.  

ARTC&S: The three military garrisons of Assam Rifles Training Centre & School (Shokhuvi, Dimapur and Diphu) also celebrated the international yoga event. Around 2000 soldiers and 500 families performed yoga simultaneously. Observed under Brig Gurjap Singh, Commandant, Assam Rifles Training Centre & School, the event aimed to integrate the body and mind to achieve harmony and peace. A press release from ARTC&S informed that yoga has been incorporated as part of routine physical fitness for the troops.  

BRTF: The 15 Border Roads Task Force (BRTF) organized a mass yoga session at its location at High School Junction, Kohima. The session was conducted for all the personnel posted with 15 BRTF. Similar sessions were conducted in allied companies of the Task Force at various locations like Zubza, Mon and Maram. Following the common yoga protocol issued by Ministry of AYUSH, the yoga session was conducted between 7am to 8am. In the one hour session, yoga and its benefits were explained, followed by prayer and various exercises. Col SP Yadava, Commander, 15 BRTF highlighted the importance of yoga in bringing harmony between mind and body and advised everyone to inculcate yoga in daily routine.  

HQ IGAR (N): HQ IGAR (N), as a nodal agency for all Security Forces, commemorated the yoga day by bringing together troops of Assam Rifles, CRPF, and other security forces of Nagaland to a common pedestal. A total of 86 officers, 358 JCOs, 4010 other ranks celebrated the yoga day across the state. HQ IGAR (N) commemorated the event in Kohima at the helipad ground. Similar camps were organised at Chiswema, Meluri, Chokitong, Wokha, Ghaspani, Piphema, Kukidong, Kashiram Basti, Tuensang, Wakching, Chare, and Longkhim COBs.  

Kiphire: Citizens from all walks of life gathered at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner, Kiphire to observe the day. Ishwar singh, yoga instructor, 46 AR Kiphire post led the gathering to perform yoga. The citizens spent more than an hour practicing yoga with the instructor.    

Yoga session in educational institutes

Various educational institutions of Nagaland celebrated the 2nd International Yoga Day on June 21. According to press releases, students participated in the global event by taking part in yoga session under the guidance of instructors.   1157 students, including NCC cadets from six educational institutions across Dimapur, participated in the yoga session held at Livingstone Foundation Hr. Sec. School, Dimapur. Andrew Ahoto, Chairman/ Principal of the school delivered welcome speech during the programme, which had Uto Chishi as the instructor for the yoga session. The school was a participant in the 1st International Yoga Day as well.  

Unity College of Arts & Commerce, Dimapur collaborated with Young Indians to commemorate the event. The programme was conducted by Rakesh Ghosh, alumni, who talked about the benefits of yoga in daily life.  

The students of Modern College, Kohima also participated in the global event. The students took part in the Vrikshasana, Utaanaasana, Trikonaasana, Bhadrasana, Shaahankaasana, Bhujangasana, Pawana Muktaasana, Pranayama, and meditation. The yoga instructors for the yoga session were Santu Thapa, President of All Nagaland Patanjali Yogpeeth and Amit Mukhiya, who exhorted the audience to imbibe yoga to have a positive lifestyle and increase the level of well being.  

Janjati Shiksha Samiti (Vidya Bharati), Nagaland celebrated the event at the Infants’ Digital Home, Kevijau Village in Dimapur. Pankaj Sinha, Organising Secretary told the participants that yoga connects the heart and mind with every part of the human body. He propagated dedicating 15 to 20 minutes to yoga everyday to save the body from any tension or disease.  

At Pranab Vidyapith Higher Secondary School, Dimapur, the Principal dwelt on the importance of yoga and its impact on human health. LC Das, Founder Headmaster, delivered a speech on the various aspects of yoga, while Sajal Ray, yoga teacher, explained the benefits of yoga. Students from Nursery to Class-10 displayed their yoga feats during the whole day. The school has introduced yoga as a compulsory subject in primary and secondary section from this academic session.
