Seeding Bio-Entrepreneurship in Nagaland

Dimapur, July 7 (MExN): Nagaland Tool Room and Training Centre (NTTC), Dimapur in collaboration with BIRAC Regional Techno-Entrepreneurship Promotion Centre (BRTC), KIIT-TBI, Bhubaneswar, organized a virtual road show on ‘Seeding Bio-Entrepreneurship in Nagaland’ on July 6. 

The event was aimed at sensitizing the innovators and start-ups about various funding opportunities available under Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC) and other government agencies. Around 60 participants from various agencies including entrepreneurs, innovators, faculties and students’ community from across the state of Nagaland attended the event, informed an update from the NTCC Dimapur.

Dr Namrata Misra, Head Bio-innovation, KIIT-TBI spoke on the role of incubators and funding opportunities for innovators and start-ups, followed by Asutosh Nanda, Head Technology Enabling Centre, KIIT-University, who stressed the importance of protecting business assets and how one should go about in protecting intellectual property. 

An overview of BRTC activities on creating an innovative ecosystem in the East and Northeast was highlighted by Dr Rajiv Kangabam, Manager KIIT-TBI. The event further deliberated the initiatives of the Department of Biotechnology, Government of India, which is creating a vibrant ecosystem for innovation to thrive in the country through its public sector biotech interface agency (BIRAC), and how BIRAC programmes can benefit innovators and start-ups to establish their ideas and develop their concepts into market-ready products.

The event also observed that BIRAC implements its mandate by invigorating the biotech ecosystem through ignition, incubation, and innovation and catalyze the biotech industries to achieve greater heights. Similarly, further agendas were gravitated upon forging a possible partnership between knowledge-based institutions to build an enabling ecosystem for promoting bio-entrepreneurship in the state. 

Finally, Er Petehetuo Miasalhou, Principal, NTTC highlighted various existing technologies, equipment, and facilities available for entrepreneurs, innovators and start-ups etc. The event was moderated by Riya Roy, Programme Associate, Bio-innovations, KIIT-TBI, and the closing remark was delivered by Dr Mechüselie Kehie, Co-ordinator, Research and Development, NTTC.
