Team Entrepreneurs Guild during the first phase of ‘Seeds of Love’ project held on September 3.
Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): The first phase of ‘Seeds of Love’ project was held on September 3 where seedlings of brinjal, tomato, bottle gourd and mango ginger bulb were distributed to around 100 pre-registered beneficiaries and also to walks in.
‘Seeds of Love’ project is an initiative of the Entrepreneurs Guild which was launched by Advisor Horticulture, Mathung Yanthan on August 25 last.
Today the beneficiaries covered residents from Dilai Gate area upto Patkai Christian College in Dimapur and also Bor Lingri. The group will be monitoring the progress of the kitchen garden.
In the second phase, the group will distribute winter vegetable seeds of five different crops in mid September.
Distribution dates will be announced shortly in the group's social media accounts, informed a press release from Entrepreneurs Guild.
“The group members are overwhelmed with the positive response of the citizens wanting to start their own kitchen garden. What started for a limited target group of 100 beneficiaries has scaled up but the group is happy with such positive response and hence has decided to accommodate as much as possible with the seed distribution. Requests for vegetable seeds from Mokokchung and Kohima town have come in too,” Entrepreneurs Guild stated.
It may be mentioned that the project is an outcome of the Entrepreneurs Guild social contribution during this pandemic to encourage people to help oneself by growing one's own vegetables at one's own backyard.
“The main objective is to show love by sharing vegetable seeds or saplings to friends, families, and neighbors in order to promote and encourage each other for kitchen and backyard gardening. This project is just the sowing of that seed to inculcate the “seed” to grow our own vegetables ourselves in an urban set up like Dimapur,” the Entrepreneurs Guild stated.
The project is collaborated with Dept of Horticulture, GoN, Central Institute of Horticulture, Ministry of Agriculture which help in technical & logistic supports.
The group has already conducted an online training on vegetables cultivation on August 17in association with CIH.
The Dimapur Ao Baptist Church seeing the noble initiative of the group has also willing come forward in support of the project by sponsoring for 10000 seedlings.
