Diphupar takes football crown, Chümoukedima-A wins volleyball

Diphupar village took the football crown in the Seithekema Circle Sports Meet 2023, which concluded on October 14. The Diphupar village football team handed a 2-0 defeat to Diphupar B at the final played at the Chümoukedima Town Public Ground. The two teams reached the final from a field of 27.

Diphupar village also had two of its players— Vizokuotuo and Mhabemo, getting the Best Player and Best Defender Awards, respectively. The Best Goalkeeper award went to Vitoutso Mere of Tenyiphe-I. Chümoukedima-A’s Manton, with 10 goals, got the Highest Scorer Award.
The sports meet, which started on October 3, saw participation from 28 villages in the Seithekema (Administrative) Circle competing in football (men) and volleyball (women).

The volleyball competition saw 19 teams. Chümoukedima-A defeated Vidima at the final.
Director General of Police, Nagaland, Rupin Sharma, who was the special guest at the closing function, stressed the significance of engaging in sports, stating that it goes beyond winning and serves as a means to cultivate teamwork and broaden one’s horizons. He encouraged resilience in the face of adversity, reminding the audience that every setback is an opportunity to learn from others.
Drawing from his own background as a former sports enthusiast, he underscored the values that sports instill, with a strong focus on dedication, commitment and mental strength.

Informing of an upcoming Nagaland Police recruitment drive, he urged the youth, including sportspersons, to join and get the opportunity to represent the force in sports while securing employment and pursuing their dreams.
He further called on citizens to cooperate with the government and the police in the fight against drug abuse. While making an appeal to not conceal information about individuals, be it family or friends, using drugs, he said, “Letting someone take poison is not good.”
He said that the police department is not in a position to help with funds but he added that the department is ready to provide logistical support for activities concerning the youth.
