In an effort to foster unity among the 36 federating villages, Seithekema Circle, through the initiative of the area’s EAC office organized its sports meet with Nagaland Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio gracing the inaugural function as the chief guest at Sovima Cricket ground, Chümoukedima on October 3.
The sports week will be take place from October 3-14 and will feature 28 villages participating in men’s football and women’s volleyball.

During his address, the Advisor mentioned that organizing such events would help bridge the differences among the various communities living under Seithekema and build a stronger bond through sports. He noted that Chümoukedima and particularly Seithekema Circle have a wide mixture of tribes residing in the villages which have coexisted peacefully over the years.
“It not only takes the improvement of law and order and development but also through sports that makes a lasting impact on the tranquility of an area,” he said. In this, he reminded the youths to be disciplined and stay away from drugs, alcohol or other harmful substances.
In particular regard to football, the Advisor maintained that the state has the potential to produce more talent such as the legendary Dr T Ao who represented India in the past. Over the last few years, he stated that the state government has come up with several sport policies, built a number of coaching institutes/ academies. So, “be it football, basketball, volleyball or any other discipline we have to start training youngsters from an early age, identifying their talent and encouraging them further,” he added.

“During this sports-week, let us build a stronger bond between the villages through the inculcation of good sportsmanship whereby it can lead to a better, peaceful and prosperous society,” the Advisor announced.
Meanwhile, in his welcome address, the EAC of Seithekema, Seyekhrietuo Solo shared that it is not just a sporting event but a coming together event of all the federating villages. During the period of conceptualization, the area Gaonburas (GBs) of each village had extended their full support to this event, he noted.
The participating villages include, Chümoukedima village, Aoyim, Bade, Chekiye, Chümoukedima A, Diezephe, Diphupar village, Diphupar-B, Kirha, Naga United, Seitheke Basa, Seithekema A, Seithekema C, Seithekema old, Seluophe, Shokhuvi, Singrijan, Sodzulhou, Sovima, Tenyiphe-I, Thilixu, Tir, Toulazouma, Unity village, Urra, Vidima, 5th Mile Model village and 7th Mile village.
It was also mentioned that the winners of the men’s football will walk away with a cash prize of Rs 1,00,000 while the winners of volleyball will receive Rs 70,000.

The inaugural function also witnessed a performance by Naga rapper, Moko Koza while other artists to be featured were Nikato Tamang, the Gluttones and Jano Nyekha.
