A three-day long Sekrenyi Mini-Hornbill Festival concluded here this evening at Khuochiezie, Kohima Local Ground. Dr Neiphrezo Keditsu, chairman Nagaland Khadi & Village Industries Board graced the third day of the festival as the special guest.
The event witnessed “Exploring Angami’s musical heritage.’ Among the many artistes who performed were Pezet Newme, Vizho Thakro, Mengu Suokhrie, Colored Keys, Atso Chasie, Keneisenuo Sorhie, Viriezhünuo Solo, Visietso Yhoshü, Ketousenuo Thami, Khriekethozo (Gugu) Sekhose and Ketoulhoutuo Zuyie.
Sekrenyi, also known as ‘Phousanyi' is the premier festival of the Angami Nagas. It is a festival of ‘purification and sanctification' of the body, mind and soul.
The festival also marks the initiation of the young into adulthood; and therefore, the festival is considered to be the hallmark of the Angamis.
The 2020 Sekrenyi Mini Hornbill was jointly organized by Angami Public Organisation (APO) and the Government of Nagaland to revisit the great virtues and values that were a part of our culture in the past, and restoring those that will give our identity today worth and depth.
