Our Correspondent Tuophema | February 26   Sekrenyi in Tuophema focuses on tradition and CultureSeveral tourists both national and international today flocked the picturesque Tuophema Village to get glimpse of the colorful celebration of Sekrenyi, the premier festival of Angami Nagas.   Tuophema, lies 41 km away from state’s capital Kohima.   The tourists, mostly from UK, USA, China, Germany, France, were enthralled by folk songs and dances presentation. MLA Namri Nchang graced the celebration as the chief guest and stressed on the need to preserve and promote the rich culture and traditions of the Nagas.   He was appreciative of Tuophema villagers for popularizing and upholding the good traditional practice of forefathers by featuring Sekrenyi festival as an annual event in this village.   Such platform enables many from far and near to familiarize themselves with the diverse culture and lifestyle of the Nagas.   Nchang also challenged the youngsters to give due importance to mother tongue, which, he said, is the foremost ingredient to maintain their identity apart from traditional dresses, folk songs and dances and other traditional practices.   MLA Nchang called upon the younger generation to obey and respect their elders and leaders.   Further, he called upon the villagers to continue to maintain better understanding and unity, which he said, is the main tool to secure conducive atmosphere and march ahead with the rest of the world.   Earlier, Tuophema Village Council chairman Pfuduolhou Kense delivered welcome address. Day one event was marked by folk tune from Neichiituo Rio & party, folk dance by Tuophema village cultural troupe, folk song by Botsa and Sechiima village.   The inaugural function was chaired by Kechangulie Kense while vote of thanks was proposed by organizing committee convenor Teisovilie Seyie.   MLA Zhaleo Rio, Dr. Neiphrezo Keditsu, chairman Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation Ltd. and several other dignitaries also present on the occasion.   Day two (February 27), starting from 10:00 AM onwards, will be marked by folk song competition, traditional yelling competition, indigenous games competition, top spinning, indigenous catapult, muzzle loading gun shooting and spear kicking.   Indigenous games competition is open to both national and international tourists as well.
