Noklak, November 13 (MExN): An awareness and training programme on semi-intensive Mithun farming for improving production and productivity was held at Village Council Hall, Noklak village on November 12. The programme was organised by ICAR- National Research Centre on Mithun in collaboration with Hope Channel, Dimapur.
Speaking on the occasion as special guest, Deputy Commissioner, Noklak Arikumba stressed on potential of Mithun rearing and promoting sustainable rearing, adding that it is the vital component backbone of rural economy. The DC Noklak urged the villagers to optimize the use of resources and materials and adopt modern practices in Mithun farming, stated a DIPR report.
Guest of Honour Major BS Chauhan, 14 Assam Rifles, Noklak said that Mithun rearing is not just a rearing handed down by the ancestral but a prominent traditions and culture of the people.
Girish Patil S, Director ICAR, National Research Centre on Mithun stated that rearing of Mithun plays a crucial role in the livelihood of tribal farmers which is a year round source of income. While presenting on Mithun Husbandry practices under Semi-intensive rearing system, he urged the Mithun rearers to have accurate enumeration of Mithun in the district. He shared on the scientific feeding of Mithun utilization in different sources of fodders, and branding of Mithun as organic certification and preservation sustainable practices, Patil added. He also mentioned on the promotion of value addition to meat, milk and leather.
Chairman, Mithun Farmers’ Society Liang shared on the Mithun rearing scenario in Noklak village. He mentioned that the farmers make sure to put fencing wherever Mithun is reared to which he thanked the villagers, community and government for giving support.
Earlier, welcome address was delivered by Chief Technical Officer ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr Kezhavitou Vupru, keynote address was presented by Chief Technical Officer ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Dr KobuKhate and vote of thanks by Tiakala Amri, Director, Hope Channel, Dimapur.
