Seminar on man-animal conflict mitigation at Medziphema

Medziphema, September 10 (MExN): Wildlife Wing, Department of Forests, Environment and Climate Change in collaboration with the Fingerprint and Castle Group conducted a seminar on man-animal conflict mitigation at Medziphema with a view to create awareness about the problem.  

RK Srivastava, Inspector General of Forests & Director (Project Elephant) graced the occasion as the chief guest. He informed the gathering about willingness of Central Government to support the cause of wildlife conservation in the state.  

Neihu C Thur IAS, Commissioner and Secretary of Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change to Government of Nagaland who was the guest of honour spoke about the importance of forests and wildlife and stressed on learning from other success stories like that of in Khonoma. He said that it should be replicated in Medziphema since the area is blessed with so much of natural wealth.  

Panger Jamir, PCCF & HoFF opined that there is a need for involvement of the communities to minimize such conflicts in the future so as to protect and conserve our precious wildlife.  

Sathya Prakash Tripathi, Chief Wildlife Warden (CWLW) highlighted the local practices of the past and spoke of the changing view of people here towards wildlife.  

Dilip Deori, Manager WTI Kaziranga and Bano Haralu, Managing Trustee, Nagaland Biodiversity and Wildlife Conservation Trust requested the people to join hands in the efforts to conserve wildlife in the state. Hongba from Fingerprint presented the various short term and long-term effects of decreasing wildlife and urged the different stakeholders to take the necessary steps in this regard.  

District Administration and Police Department also participated in the seminar and pledged their support as and when needed.
