Seminar on ‘A world without ethics: a critical examination’ held in PCC

Patkai, October 5 (MExN): The Department of English, Patkai Christian College (PCC) (Autonomous) organised a seminar on the theme, ‘A world without ethics: a critical examination’ on October 5 with Prof Xavier P Mao, Professor and Head, Department of Philosophy, NEHU, Shillong as the speaker. 

Prof Xavier in his speech asserted that “all subjects were only one, that is philosophy.” He invited the attendees on an intellectual adventurous journey, urging them to stay attentive, as certain ideas might evade their grasp. A press release from PCC Mass Comm stated that He emphasised the importance of comfort and encouraged questions from the audience.

Prof Xavier highlighted the crucial role of ethics in society, stating, “Without ethics, trust and relationship disappears.” He elaborated that “spirituality means caring and respecting all human beings,” and explained that "ethics is the framework by which we make sense of right and wrong, justice and injustice.” He further cautioned, “Without ethics, human life would lack cohesion, trust, and purpose.”

“If you are not hateful, you will bring goodness to yourself,” he stated. He emphasised, “The human conception are such that unless we debate, that true essence does not come out. That is why dialogue and conversation becomes very significant.”

Rüületo Vakha, Assistant Professor of English, PCC, led the second interactive session where the attendees raised several questions.
