
Dimapur, October 24 (MExN): The NER Chapter of PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in association with Department of Commerce, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India organized a virtual seminar on ‘NER for export potential of cane and bamboo furniture and decorative crafts, focus state: Nagaland’ under capacity building programme initiative on October 21.
The objective of the webinar was to explore the potential of export of cane & bamboo products and decorative crafts in the State of Nagaland.
Dr Tolto Metha, Project Officer, Nagaland Bamboo Development Agency (NBDA) gave a brief description about the agency. He stated that bamboo can no longer be termed as a poor man’s timber but of late its importance has risen dramatically. He described about the different species of bamboo being used for different purposes and their export potential. He described about few successful entrepreneurs from Nagaland who are exporting cane and bamboo products from the State.
Kamruddin Ahmed, Former Director, Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship stated the role of marketing in increasing the export potential of cane and bamboo products from the State of Nagaland. He pointed out the need to increase bamboo production in the State.
Dr Neelanjan Konwar, Regional Advisory NER and Bhutan stated about the immense potential in the Nagaland Bamboo industry and the export of cane & bamboo products. He pointed out the need to provide handholding support to the bamboo artisans of the State.
Er Manoj Kumar Das, Former Managing Director, NERAMAC spoke on his role in establishing the Cane and Bamboo Technology Centre (CBTC). He gave an overview on different schemes of the Central Government regarding the bamboo industry.
