Seminar on role of women in church

Phek, September 20 (MExN): St. Ignatius Parish, Razeba Catholic Women Association conducted two-day seminar cum competitions on September 17 and 18 with the theme, “Role of women in the church”. Rev. Sr. Margaret Sekhose MSMHC was the resource person.

Speaking on the theme on the first day, Rev. Sr. Margaret stated that the role of every woman is to be a leader in the family and society, according to a press release received here. “Mother is the first and best teacher of the child. Mother is the best leader,” she maintained. To be a leader, she added, one need not be a powerful speaker, organizer, or one who has plenty of money, power or position. “But one can be a role model. One who can influence the lives of others.”

She also opined that on a personal level, a woman should lead a good moral life, and have self control. Meanwhile, on a family level, she should take care of the husband, children and household, and on social level, she should be willing to take up the responsibility and should have personal integrity, the resource person stated. “There should be no gap between the lips and the heart,” she added.

On the second day, the women participants had various competitions such as group song, preaching, solo, trio, Bible skit, and extempore speech. The winners were given attractive prizes.

The seminar, which was attended by 150 women, concluded with Holy Eucharistic celebration presided over by Rev. Fr. Jacob Chapoa, Assistant Parish Priest of Tunjoy. In his sermon, he emphasized on the “Role of mother in the family”. He portrayed St. Monica and Blessed Virgin Mary as the best role models for all the mothers. He also exhorted the mothers to imitate their shining examples.
