Book titled ‘Talents & Skills: Developing the Art’ released

A two-day seminar on the role of skills and talent development in national economy started on Tuesday at ICFAI University, Dimapur organized by the Department of Management Studies.  

Addressing the students as the chief guest, Director ICAR, National Research Centre on Mithun, Jharnapani, Dr. Abhijit Mitra encouraged the students to acquire talents as it was not always inborn in everyone. He said there was no substitute to hardwork and that everyone has the ability to achieve something if they remain focused on the goal. Dr. Mitra advised the students to stop blaming others and also not to laugh at somebody elses mistakes since people learn from mistakes.  

Guest of honour, Lt. Gen. Dr. S.P. Kochhar (Retd) AVSM, SM, VSM spoke about the necessity to be rooted in ones past and look back to where one belongs. He pointed out that there was a lack of bridge between academia and industries which remain busy in their own fields.  

According to Dr. Kochhar, skill was the bridge that is lacking between the two entities and that none was ready to take the first step in bridging that gap.  

He divided skills into three parts- educational skills, skills with education and artisan skills. To build a skill capital, one has to focus majorly on skills with education, he added.  

Stressing on entrepreneurship, Dr. Kochhar also harped on the need to have skill development centre at ICFAI University.  

Special Guest, Col. Dr. VRK Prasad whose book titled, Talents & Skills: Developing the Art, was released by the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour highlighted on the concept on the book which impresses that everybody was blessed and intelligent and that no human being was useless.  

Skill is basic and talent is ultimate. Talent is something which makes you repeatedly do it and reach the ultimate, the former VC of ICFAI University, Nagaland said.  

Vice Chancellor, ICFAI University, Nagaland, C.P. Alexander delivered the welcome address during the seminar.
