Senior Citizens come out to vote

A number of senior citizens thronged the nearest polling station to cast their vote in different parts of Nagaland on February 27. While some had walking sticks with them, some were accompanied by their family and relatives.  

According to the Age Wise Percentage of Electors prepared by the CEO Nagaland, out of the 1163388, the age group 60 to 80+ years comprises 14.2%.  

Several pictures were also shared in different social media medium appreciating the efforts of the senior citizens. One blogger posted the picture of a 95 year woman, reportedly one of the “oldest women” in Moayimti Village under 30 Alongtaki A/C. She was brought to the polling station by an unidentified person carrying her on his back. Another blogger shared the picture of a 102 year old granny in Aonokpu village.  

The polling station in 9 Kohima Town Assembly Constituency saw voting by two elderly people at the age of 99, namely Rhonthungo (male) and Kehrino haralu, age 80(Female). In another polling station one elderly female Neikuonuo from Naga Bazar upper cast her vote at the age of 90 plus knowing that she can change the future with her one vote.
