Senior Kilonser resigns from GPRN/NSCN

In an unexpected and sudden development, a senior Kilonser of the GPRN/NSCN, Akato Chophi, has tendered his resignation from the post of Kilonser as well as membership from the GPRN/NSCN, which he joined in 2007.

It may be noted that Akato Chophi was a leading figure during the formation of the GPRN/NSCN in 2007. Speaking to media persons at an undisclosed location in Dimapur on Sunday, Chopi who held the post of Kilonser for NGOs and Public Relations, said he has resigned from the organization due to “personal reasons” and declined to comment further on the reasons. Akato also said that as of now he has no plan to join any other Naga political group.

“If my service is needed in the future, I am ready to work for the cause of the Naga Nation as I have been in national service for 20 odd years”, he said.

Akato who left the GPRN/NSCN alongwith some 7-8 of his close aides and personal bodyguards and arms, said he would retain the weapons as they are not “government” weapons but his own.

Though Akato said his leaving the GPRN/NSCN would not have any impact, yet his resignation at the present juncture has raised questions on ramifications it could have within the GPRN set-up.
