Player of the Match: Akavi A Yeptho (Niuland)
CHÜMOUKEDIMA, MARCH 18 (MExN): Niuland and Chümoukedima both emerged victorious in their respective matches in the Senior Men’s Inter-District One Day Tournament 2025 held on March 18 at the Nagaland Cricket Stadium and Sovima Cricket Ground in Chümoukedima. The tournament is organized by the Nagaland Cricket Association.
In the first match of the day, Niuland defeated Kohima by 5 wickets in a closely contested game. Kohima, after winning the toss and opting to bat, struggled to form strong partnerships and was bowled out for just 92 runs in 25.2 overs. Anga Shuya was the top scorer for Kohima with 27 runs off 38 balls, while Tapito Thupitopr added 24 runs. Niuland’s Akavi A Yeptho starred with the ball, taking 5 wickets for 25 runs in 9 overs, ensuring Kohima’s collapse.
Niuland chased down the modest target of 93 runs in 18.3 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Afzal Choudhury (26 off 50 balls) and Sujal Prasad Thakur (24 off 22 balls) contributed with the bat to steer their team to victory. Akavi A Yeptho was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance.
In the second match, Chümoukedima defeated Mon by 9 wickets in a dominant display. Mon won the toss and chose to bat first but was dismissed for 123 runs in 43 overs. Santosh was the standout performer for Mon, making an unbeaten 56 runs off 61 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup failed to provide significant support.
Chümoukedima’s bowlers, particularly Jonathan Rongsen, put in a strong performance. Rongsen took 4 wickets for 33 runs in 10 overs, with Keduowhetuo adding 2 wickets for 22 runs in 6 overs.
Chümoukedima then comfortably chased down the target of 124 runs, reaching 124/1 in just 17.5 overs. Rongsen led the chase with a quickfire 56 off 41 balls, while Mughavi Sumi contributed an unbeaten 44 off 53 balls.
Mon’s only success with the ball came from Tingmei Konyak, who took 1 wicket for 28 runs in 4 overs. Jonathan Rongsen was named Player of the Match for his all-round performance. With these victories, both Niuland and Chümoukedima strengthened their positions in the tournament.
