Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy: Central, East, North Zones register wins

Sovima, NOVEMBER 12 (MExN): The Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy witnessed a day of high-intensity action at Sovima on Wednesday, with Central, East, and North Zones posting impressive victories in their respective matches, underscoring the depth of emerging talent in women’s cricket.

At the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Central Zone bounced back strongly with a 24-run win over West Zone, while at the adjacent Nagaland Cricket Ground, East Zone edged past South Zone by six runs in a last-over thriller. In the other fixture, North Zone continued their dominant run, crushing North East Zone by 126 runs in a one-sided contest.

Anushka Sharma powers Central Zone past West Zone

Electing to bat first, Central Zone amassed 160 for six in 20 overs, thanks to a brilliant 80 off 58 balls by Anushka Sharma and an unbeaten 54 off 41 by Mona. West Zone’s A A Patil stood out with a five-wicket haul (5/31).

Chasing 161, West Zone managed 136 for six, with T S Hasabnis (28), Simran (28) and P N Khemnar (25*) providing resistance. Central Zone’s Vaishnavi Sharma (3/31) bowled decisively to seal the win. Anushka Sharma was named Player of the Match.

East Zone edge South Zone in thriller

In a nail-biting finish at the Nagaland Cricket Ground, East Zone defeated South Zone by six runs. Batting first, East Zone posted 158 for four, led by T Sarkar (40), Tanmayee Behera (39), and Dhara Gujjar (31).

Chasing 159, South Zone fell short despite an unbeaten 54 off 41 balls by Niki Prasad. East Zone’s bowlers held their nerve, with Mamta Paswan (2/21) and Saika Ishaque (3/39) taking key wickets.

Paswan’s composure in the death overs earned her the Player of the Match title.

North Zone overwhelm North East Zone

At the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, North Zone delivered a commanding performance, defeating North East Zone by 126 runs.

Opting to bat first, North Zone piled up 204 for two, with S M Singh’s blistering 87 off 58 balls and Ayushi Soni’s unbeaten 69 off 39 leading the charge.

In response, North East Zone were bundled out for 75 in 17.2 overs, as Nazma (4/9), Amandeep Kaur (3/10), and Soni Yadav (2/6) ripped through the batting lineup.

The Player of the Match went to S M Singh (North Zone) – 87* (58).
