Sovima, November 4 (MExN): North Zone and West Zone today registered emphatic wins as the Senior Women’s Inter Zonal T20 Trophy kicked off at Nagaland Cricket Stadium and the Sovima Cricket Ground resp ectively.
At the Nagaland Cricket Stadium, South Zone won the toss and elected to field first.
North Zone posted 152 for 5 in the allotted 20 overs, with Deeya Yadav anchoring the innings with a 67 off 47 balls.
South Zone bowlers C Prathyusha (2/20) and Sahana S Pawar (2/40) delivered tidy spells but North Zone maintained control throughout the innings.
In reply, South Zone were bowled out for 56 in 14.3 overs. Only Prathyusha reached double digits, scoring 14 off 20 balls, as wickets continued to fall at regular intervals.
Amandeep Kaur led the bowling attack with 3 for 9 from her four overs, while Nazma (2/10) and Mannat Kashyap (2/14) ensured North Zone completed a comprehensive 96-run victory.
Yadav was adjudged Player of the Match.
At the Sovima Cricket Ground, North East Zone opted to field first against West Zone. West Zone capitalised immediately, piling up 201 for 4 in 20 overs.
The innings was dominated by a blistering 112 off 58 balls by K P Navgire, supported by an unbeaten 44 off 28 balls from A A Patil.
Despite disciplined efforts from North East bowlers S Jaba (1/21) and Primula (1/30), the batting onslaught proved too strong.
Chasing 202, North East Zone struggled to build any momentum and finished at 75 for 8 in 20 overs. D D Dutta top-scored with 23 off 32 balls, while Patil also impressed with the ball, picking up 2 for 13. West Zone sealed a commanding 126-run victory, with Navgire named Player of the Match for her century.
The Nagaland Cricket Association (NCA), under the aegis of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is set to host the IDFC First Bank Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal T20 Trophy from November 4 -14.
