
Despite win against Bihar, Nagaland fails to qualify for knockouts
Dimapur, November 6 (MExN): In the Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, Nagaland secured another win, beating Bihar by 67 runs. After having won the toss, the Nagaland team opted to bat first and managed a target of 148 runs after being bundled out in 43.5 overs. Gautami Naik’s 70 runs (not out) and Poonam Khemnar’s 32 runs were the major run contributors for Nagaland.
For Bihar, Aarya took 3 wickets while Apurva and Puja claimed 2 wickets each. The run chase for Bihar was put to an end with just 81 runs as they were all out in 28.3 overs. Gautami Naik picked 4 wickets and Poonam claimed 3 wickets while Elina and Kiran registered a wicket in their names.
Today’s win put Nagaland tied with J&K in the point table. However Nagaland could not qualify for the knock-outs as they previously lost to J&K in the league phase of the tournament. Hyunilo Anilo Khing Hon Secretary of the Nagaland Cricket Association informed that as per the rule, in the event of teams finishing on equal points and wins and the two teams have already played against each other in the league phase then the team who has won the match (head to head) will be adjudged the group point table leader. Moreover, J&K’s Net Run Rate (+1.126) was higher than that of Nagaland’s (+1.021).
