‘Senseless acts murdering the career of student community’

Phek, June 3 (MExN): The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has declared strong support towards the initiative taken by the Phek Chamber of Commerce and Industries (PCCI) regarding the indefinite closure of shops in Phek town on May 30. This call had been made to show discontentment over the “extreme taxation on the business community and subsequent creation of panic among the public by the so-called Naga National Movement functionaries where firing in public places were becoming the fashion of the day”.

Expressing its ‘unflinching solidarity’ towards the PCCI, the CSU further condemned the act of the functionaries for hampering the normal lives of citizens of the town and neighbouring villages. Stating this, the Union in a press communiqué issued by its president, Mutsivoyi Kotso, and general secretary Esther Rhakho, decried the fact that the frequent clashes between the different functionaries mostly targeting the educational centres and Churches “is an act of dishonouring the sentiments of the people specially the students and religious community”.

“Those senseless acts carry an intention of murdering the career of the student’s community,” the Union asserted while maintaining that that students’ lives had become too insecure to pursue an academic career. Further, while urging the students to remain vigilant, the Union warned that it would not tolerate anyone found having a role “in any unwanted ways”.

Taking in view the larger interest of the people and especially for the sake of students preparing for their mid-term exams, the Union has advised the armed functionaries to stay away from populated places, while warning that failure to comply with this request would compel the student community to launch a non-cooperation movement “against the senseless act”.
