Tseminyu, August 27 (MExN): The Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC) in collaboration with National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) conducted an awareness programme on Dairy Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (DEDS) and Joint Liability Group (JLG) for dairy farmers on August 25 in the conference hall of CRBC, Zunpha.
Dr. Gwazenlo Tep, Veterinary Assistant Surgeon sensitized the participants on the scope of setting up dairy farms and importance of adopting scientific practices while undertaking dairy activities to realise its full potential, according to a press release from Bendang Aier, Assistant General Manager, NABARD.
To encourage dairying with bank loan, Bendang Aier, AGM, NABARD during the programme discussed the objective, features and facilities available under DEDS, which is a credit linked subsidy scheme of GoI. As the group approach has been found to be an effective mode for purveying credit, Aier also sensitized them about JLG and requested CRBC to mobilise interested dairy farmers into groups on cluster basis for effective implementation and monitoring. In Nagaland State, a total of 82 and 344 dairy farmers were assisted under the scheme during the year 2014-15 and 2015-16 respectively, he added.
Meanwhile, Puhovil Tsukru, Branch Manager of Nagaland State Cooperative Bank (NStCB), Tseminyu branch shared his concern about poor recovery climate especially under Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Scheme. However, the experience of associating with CRBC for extending banking services to the rural people, including recovery, has been positive, he said.
Calling upon the participants to respect the terms and conditions of credit, Nitish Chakravorty, Branch Manager of Vijaya Bank, Tseminyu branch also expressed his willingness to extend necessary assistance to the people in collaboration with CRBC. In this connection, both the Branch Managers requested CRBC to promote JLGs and extend necessary hand holding support to them for ensuring proper end use of bank loan.
Arhunlo Semp, Development Secretary, CRBC chaired the meeting, while John, Pastor and Hini Tep, Secretary, CED, Zunpha pronounced the invocation and vote of thanks respectively.
