Dimapur, August 4 (MExN): Sponsored by Horticulture Department, Nagaland and Minister TR Zeliang, the Senior Citizen Forum Peren District in partnership with Radiant Society and in collaboration with C-CERP Dimapur, organized a seminar on August 3 at Zeliangrong Baudi Rahanky, Jalukie.
District Horticulture Officer, N. Amose Ao who was the chief guest of the occasion opened the meeting with the topic “Opportunity of the existent of Horticulture.” The chief guest in his speech shared various avenues from which genuine farmers can avail facilities from the Horticulture sector. He strongly pointed out the need to separate development from politics stating, “No nation, society or community can succeed in the long run if they interfere development with politics.”
The resource persons were Vimeno Meru Liegise, Founder of Radiant Society, Liangsi Newmai John, Director, C-CERP, Dimapur, and Denise Elung Zeliang, Founder of Senior Citizens Forum. The resource persons, while focusing on the need for rural development in a country which has celebrated its freedom for more than fifty years, dwelt on the need to interlink between all sections of the society–be it church, administration, village council, student community, youth, women societies and even family. While highlighting the various developmental projects that are undertaken by the central and state governments for the welfare of the rural people, the resource persons also urged the people to come together, realize their needs and share their dreams so that they can unitedly focus on their dreams. “Despite economic progress in the post-independence period, nine Five-Year Plans and heavy investments, the living conditions of the rural poor have not improved. Instead it has deteriorated with inflation and widespread unemployment. Dissatisfaction with the quality of life has therefore affected the attitudes and social harmony of the rural people,” Liangsi Newmai, Director of C-CERP stated.
The resource persons jointly challenged the gathering to forsake segregative ideologies and start propagating the idea of developmental and sustainable livelihood so that they prepare an economically brighter generation for their children and their children’s children — and that they simply no longer sustain on a borrowed resources of the next generation.
The meeting was chaired by Denise Zeliang, NPF President, Peren District. The note also stated that the seminar, which also had an open discussion session, witnessed a large turnout of eminent church leaders, while the village council members, NGO leaders, students, youth and women leaders also attended. Special opening song was presented by the Jalukie team and Rev. Bamliu Zeliang (ZBCC) invoked the opening prayer. The seminar ended with a benediction from Rev. H.M. Gangmei, Executive Secretary of the Rongmei Baptist Association.
