Set aside RIIN, focus on strict ILP implementation: ZBN

DIMAPUR, JULY 15 (MExN): The Zeliangrong Baudi Nagaland (ZBN) today expressed displeasure at the Nagaland State Government not inviting the organization for the consultative meet on the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) which is scheduled to be held on July 17.

A press note from the ZBN President, CR Zeliang and Secretary, Aluibe Iheilung stated that “this policy is to further divide the Nagas, and particularly the Zeliangrong as a peoples.” The ZBN further felt that “the committee working on the issue is to divert the main agenda of the implementation of ILP in Dimapur with that of RIIN, thus inviting unwarranted turmoil in the state.”

“As such at this crucial stage, RIIN should be set aside and keep it in abeyance before proper modalities or guidelines are work out for its implementation,” the ZBN said, while stating that the focus should rather be on the strict implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in Dimapur.

“While working out modalities or streamlining for RIIN it is felt that there should be partial consideration on the government notification of 1977 on the cut off year of 1963 to either 1971 or 1981,” the ZBN further stated, adding that “many genuine names were not included in the 1961 census and 1963 electoral roll.”
