SETAM imparting on the need for Technical input in Nagaland today

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 6 (MExN): Nagaland University, School of Engineering Technology and Management (SETAM) today celebrated the opening of its 3rd Technical fest ‘TechAura’ under the theme “Enlightening Innovation” organized by the students and faculties of School of Engineering Technology at its premises. The opening ceremony was graced by Alemtemshi, Additional Chief Secretary & Development Commissioner and hosted by Visapa Movi.

Delivering the gist of TechAura, Visapa Movi said that the objective of the event is to provide the kind of opportunity to young minds to mould and motivate their talents in technology, in order for them to create and develop a mind for technical development. It is important as it calls for co-operation and exchange by bringing together faculties and students from various institutes in and around Nagaland and sometimes even from other North Eastern States.

V. Sharan, Administration-in-charge, SETAM-NU on his speech said that such events will help students not only to develop exchange of knowledge but also self-confidence, which is an important element to the road to success. By giving examples of Inventors, he said that self-confidence will help students accept mistakes and develop the hunger to try harder which would take them to great success. He also expressed joy towards SETAM for successfully producing two batches from Technical Engineering discipline and wish success and better future of the students and of the University.

The Chief Guest, Alemtemshi in his speech delivered on the importance of ‘Twinning’ and ‘Exchange’. While citing example of CISHR twinning with CMC, Vellore like wise he said that engineering colleges functioning alone may not be substantial unless there is a foundation for twinning and exchange with other bigger institutes. In this regard, he also said that they will appeal to Government for help and direction. From historical perspective, he said that the development of technology and inventions has changed the course of humanity. Human cultural system would change vis-à-vis machines, while historians would watch evolution powerless, technical students would change the world with power, hence he advised the students to take control of the power with great enthusiasm for change and development. He also advised the students to absorb as much as they can throughout their course of study, because today the students come to seek education mainly for employment that they forget the bigger picture of innovation and of inventions. “What can change us in this 21st century is your knowledge of science & technology that you learn through such events”, he said. He also wished success for the event and to the students saying that when there is equal availability of knowledge and opportunity SETAM also deserves the same knowledge as other students from other parts of the world.

The programme also witnessed the presence of Ayala Jamir, finalist Naga Idol 2010 presenting a special number. The technical fest ‘TechAura’ will continue for three days, from November 6- November 8 at the college premises.
