SETAM students to continue stir

Dimapur, August 13 (MExN): Students of Nagaland University’s School of Engineering, Technology and Management (SETAM) today said they would continue with their agitations unless the university seriously addresses their demands. The SETAM Students’ Council is leading agitations pressing for a number of demands associated with proper facilities, faculty and fees.
The institution’s students’ council issued a note today informing of a meeting on August 12 with acting vice chancellor Professor BS Chauhan in Medziphema. They discussed the problems being face by the students, such as those related with hostels and classes. To the issues related to faculty and fee structure, the vice chancellor expressed his haplessness as he recently took charge and is unaware of the matter, the SESC stated in its note. The note was appended by the SESC’s president Menyawongto and general secretary Jungshimanen Tzudir.
‘The VC also showed his surprise when the students informed him about Information Technology department’s faculty problems that there is not even a singly faculty in the department right now whereas classes of three fledge semesters are supposed to have started from August 8. It was also informed that no alternative arrangement has been made,’ the students,’ stated.
As these problems have been affecting the students for the past five years and the students have not seen any effort form the university in developing the institution till now, the students’ council said. ‘For this reason, the students will not call off the agitations until and unless the university takes the issues seriously and look into the matter immediately,’ the students’ council informed.
