SETAM Tech students want redress

Dimapur, August 25 (MExN): Second year B. Tech students of School of Engineering, Technology and Management of Nagaland University (SETAM), today highlighted a number of problems that they say are hampering their academic progress.
“We hope that this letter would awaken the concern authorities from their slumber. Being the recognized central university of engineering and technology in Nagaland, we look upon it with high hopes to help us achieve excellence in all academic aspects,” the students stated in a handwritten letter received here today.
“The inconsiderate behavior of the higher authorities, unavailability of a permanent campus and permanent faculties has become the major hurdles towards our better future,” they said.
The letter said the unavailability of a permanent campus, insufficient number of rooms and equipments has brought the students to a state of quandary and restraining them from their right to learn. “If this issue does not get a serious start, then the damage that might follow would not be alien,” the letter said.
Further, the students highlighted the unavailability of permanent faculties. “Most of the classes remain suspended due to lack of permanent faculties, guest faculties has become a tradition, hampering full time devotion to the students leading to inconvenience in time management. If more permanent faculties can be availed, the present situation of infinite agitation can be eased to some extent,” the letter explained.
The students also referred to the demand for revision of the fee structure: The academic fee charges do not compensate “to the least of our expectations, therefore we seek a proper revised fee structure,” the letter of the students said.
“If the higher officials could be least interested of this situation, then we await in need of a sea change in their duty towards making a better and brighter SETAM,” the letter said.
