Several operators violating food safety norms: CMO Dimapur

Dimapur, May 1 (MExN): Many Food Business Operators (FBOs) in Dimapur District who are involve in manufacturing and packaging, storing and selling food articles are defaulting on safety norms and running without FSSAI and ISI/BIS certification numbers, a district top health official said today.  

It include packaged drinking water of 10/20 litres jars, the Chief Medical Officer Dimapur Dr. K. Vikato Kinimi informed in a press release.  

He further stated that such violations are punishable with fine upto two lakhs rupees with prohibition order of selling such food articles.  

The Food Safety and Standard Act 2006 prohibits selling of any food articles to consumers without manufacturing, best before and expiry date; net quantity (weight/volume); Veg and Non-Veg logo; Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and Bureau of Indian Standards number; manufacturers detailed address, etc in their respective package labels, he added. In this connection, the CMO requested the consumers not to purchase any food articles which do not have proper label or misbranded food.  

In case of complaint related to food safety, a written complaint or letter can be submitted to the Designated Officer of Food Safety, Office of the CMO, Dimapur, for further necessary action in the interest of public and consumers, he added.
