Sex ratio in Mon district cause concern

Mon, April 26 (DIPR): The Mon District Planning & Development Meeting for the month of April was held under the Chairmanship of the Deputy Commissioner & Vice Chairman, Dinesh Kumar, IAS on April 26 at the DC’s Conference Hall, Mon.
Welcoming the members present, the Chairman lauded the Konyak Union (KU) for organizing the Aoleang festival in a grand manner and congratulated the Census officials for successfully completing the Census 2011 with accuracy. The Deputy Commissioner informed the house that Mon district is also the lowest in the sex ratio and said difference in the sex ratio may create uninvited social problems in the future. Briefing on the Census 2011 and its low literacy rate of the district with only 56.6 %, the Deputy Commissioner said that it’s a great concern for everyone to contribute and improve the literacy rate of Mon district. He also urged upon the officers, the NGOs and the Village Council to ensure that all children are enrolled in the schools and avail the free education opportunity provided by the Government.
Announces award to improve literacy rate
To encourage the students and improve the literacy rate of the district, the Board has also decided to give award to the meritorious students, who secure Top 10 (Ten) position in the Matric Examination starting from the current academic year 2010-11. In this regard the SDO (C) Mon, Hiazu Meru who is also the Convenor of the Committee, briefed the house about the decision taken by the Committee regarding selection of the meritorious students.  
The house approved grant in aid to the Edith Douglas School, Mon and Sayeang Middle School, Shiyong village and opening of new Government Schools (Sector ‘B’) at Sowa village. The house also deliberated about the improvement of Mon to Namtola road, which is under renovation. At the request of the chairman, the E.E. (PWD) briefed the latest development of the road to the board. The District Forest Officer (DFO), Mon and District Project Officer (LRD) presented their departmental activities to the house.  The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted about the Rashtriya Swasthya Bima Yojana (RSBY) of the Labour Department, which is conducting seminar at various sub-divisions in the district. He also announced that the next DPDB meeting will be held on May 16.
