Shamator hosts awareness programme on adoption rules, POCSO Act

Shamator, April 28 (MExN): A district-level awareness programme on Adoption Regulations and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was held at the Deputy Commissioner Conference Hall in Shamator on April 28.

At the event organised by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Officer-in-Charge of Shamator Police Station Lulun Singson delivered a short address stressing the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing crimes against children.

A presentation on the POCSO Act was delivered by Cherry Ovung, who explained the provisions of the Act, reporting mechanisms, and the responsibilities of individuals and institutions in safeguarding children from sexual offences.

Meanwhile, , Member of the Child Welfare Committee, Shamator, Mungphula spoke on adoption regulations and guidelines, outlining legal procedures, eligibility criteria, and the need to ensure transparency and child welfare throughout the adoption process.

An interactive session followed, during which participants raised questions and sought clarifications on adoption procedures and child protection laws, the State DIPR reported.

Earlier, District Child Protection Officer Imtisanen highlighted the importance of awareness on child protection laws and ethical adoption practice in his welcome address.
