SHAMATOR, OCTOBER 3 (MExN): St. Xavier Higher Secondary School, Shamator, organised its annual Cultural Day celebration on Friday with enthusiastic participation from students and staff. The event was graced by Shamator EAC Mekato Aye as the Special Guest and Col. G. P. Singh, Commandant of 32 Assam Rifles, Shamator, as the Guest of Honour. Principal Fr. Latsutho Poji delivered the welcome address, after which students presented a variety of cultural performances.

The day’s highlights included competitions in War Cry (Yelling), folk dances and folk songs, which showcased the richness of local tradition. A quartet performance added musical variety, while basket making and knitting competitions emphasised the importance of traditional crafts. Students also narrated folk tales, bringing to life the humour, wisdom and moral values of oral traditions.

Addressing the gathering, both the Special Guest and Guest of Honour lauded the students for their spirited performances and the school for promoting cultural identity alongside academics. They urged the young generation to take pride in their heritage while striving for academic excellence and future success. The celebration concluded with teachers, students and parents joining together in a spirit of unity, creativity and cultural pride.
