DIMAPUR, JULY 23 (MExN): The Shamator Town Students’ Union (STSU) organized its first freshers' social cum literary programme at the Shamator cultural hall on July 22.

Former speaker, Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA), K Yaksokiu Yimchunger, who was the special guest in his address, reminded the students that education is not just textbook learning, clearing up exams and getting a degree but they should rely on learning and acquiring knowledge, skills, values, morals, beliefs and habits.

He pointed out that in this fast changing scenario only those who are well equipped with bonus skills, well versed in computer skills, good communication and well polished personalities stand a better chance of being successful.

Taking the example of 160 million young working population in India alone where there is challenging rate of unemployment, Yaksokiu encouraged the young students for holistic education and also to focus on vocational life skills and not only on conventional education.

He also urged the students not to focus for employment only on public sector but to prepare to face any challenges to be successful in the private sectors as well.

Earlier, the presidential address was delivered by Toshikhiung and speech on behalf of fresher by Lunrila T. The first session was followed by literary competition where the students competed in quiz, extempore speech and debate. A special song was presented by St Xavier Higher Secondary School and by Shamator College.
