Shena Old and Longidang villages get new bridge

Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): A reinforced cement concrete (RCC) bridge connecting Shena Old village in Zunheboto district and N Longidang village in Wokha district was inaugurated on Friday by Deputy Chief Minister Y Patton. 

The new bridge was built over the Doyang River under the Central Road Fund (CRF) scheme, according to a press release from the Media Cell, DY CMO. Advisor for Roads & Bridges H Chuba Chang and MLA Picto Shohe also attended the inauguration.

As per the release, Patton said that the idea of building the bridge was conceived back in 2014 during a community fishing event, when he shared the idea with the local MLA Picto Shohe. Subsequently, in 2017, Patton laid the foundation and the inauguration of the bridge today has become the realisation of long-cherished dream, the release stated.

The Dy CM also said that the new connectivity will cut the distance and ease the burden of the people since the road leads up to Kiphire district. He is said to have urged the people, particularly those in the adjoining villages, to utilise the bridge ‘for economic activities but not for illegal activities.’ 

Meanwhile, the Minister noted that the roads on both sides need to be constructed, and said that he, along with the MLA, would take the matter up under any viable scheme. He also requested the Advisor (R&B) to take up the road project on priority, the release stated.

Similarly, MLA Picto also said that there is a need to construct pliable road for commuters. He also thanked the Dy CM for his concern for the people on both sides.

According to the release, Advisor H Chuba Chang urged the people on both sides to help each other in times of need and use the government property with care while the Engineer-in-Chief for NPWD Kahuli Sema gave an introduction and brief report of the project.

Rev Tokishe Awomi, pastor of Shena Old Baptist church said the dedicatory prayer while Echungthung Ngullie, pastor of Longidang Baptist church pronounced the benediction.

Earlier in the morning, the Dy CM inaugurated a village gate in N Longidang village in the presence of district administration officials, district police officials, village council, VDB members, GBs, village elders and party workers, the release stated.
